Privacy Notice

Dents.co measures dents on your phone, and your work stays there. A backup copy also comes to us, with customer names removed, so we can make the app better. This page explains what that copy holds, who sees it, and what we never do with it.

Who this covers

Dents.co is made by Estisnap, LLC. This notice covers the Dents.co iPhone app, the DentsKit measurement engine where it is used in our own products, and the dents.co website, including this beta waitlist.

It does not cover what a shop does with an estimate after it leaves the app, or what Apple does with your Apple Account. Apple's own privacy policy governs the App Store, TestFlight and iCloud.

What the app keeps on your phone

Dents.co is built to work in a parking garage with no signal. Everything the app produces is written to its own storage on your device:

  • Scans: the LiDAR depth frames and the photo captured with them
  • Measurements, dent outlines and confidence ratings
  • Repair orders, including any customer name, vehicle details and VIN you enter
  • Your settings: units, labor rate, pricing coefficients, and the shop name, phone number and estimator that print on an estimate

There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to. Your scans, measurements and repair orders are also backed up to our servers, with customer names removed, as described in the next section. Your settings stay on your phone.

What leaves your phone, and when

Five things. Nothing else is sent anywhere.

Background backup
In the background, when you have a connection, the app sends a copy of your scans (the depth frames and photo), measurements and repair orders to our servers, including vehicle details and VIN. Customer names are removed before anything is sent, and your settings and estimate PDFs are not included. We use the backup only to improve the measurement engine, the pricing model and the app. Our team can view it in an internal admin tool for that purpose.
VIN decode
When you scan or type a VIN, that VIN alone is sent to the NHTSA vPIC lookup service to decode the year, make and model. No customer or shop information goes with it.
Diagnostic scan export
Only when you tap it. It sends the scan's depth data, the photo and the app state so we can reproduce a bad measurement.
Feedback reports
During the beta, shaking the phone opens a report. Whatever you attach to it comes to us, including a screenshot if you add one.
Support email
What you write to us, and anything you attach.

An estimate PDF is not on this list. When you share one it goes from your phone to whoever you send it to. We never receive a copy.

iCloud sync

Pro subscribers can turn on sync across their own devices. It uses CloudKit, and the data lands in the private database of your iCloud account, not ours. Apple's terms apply to it, and Estisnap cannot read the iCloud copy.

Sync is off until you switch it on. Turning it off leaves the local copy on the device untouched. Sync is separate from the background backup in section 03, which runs whether or not sync is on.

Subscriptions and payment

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card, billing address or Apple Account details. What we receive from Apple is whether a subscription is currently active, which is what unlocks Pro features.

This website

The waitlist form collects your email address, the role you pick, and a shop name if you choose to give one. We use it to send you a TestFlight invitation and to talk to you about the beta, and we add you to our mailing list and our product update list. You can unsubscribe from either list or both at any time, from the link in any of those emails or by writing to beta@dents.co. We do not sell your information.

The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so Google receives the request and your IP address as part of serving them. There is no analytics script, no advertising pixel and no cookie banner, because there are no cookies to consent to.

Waitlist submissions are stored in Supabase, the site is hosted on Vercel, and our emails go out through an email service provider. Each acts as a processor for us, and Vercel's request logs are kept under its own retention policy. We keep waitlist contacts for one year after the beta ends, then delete them.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with data brokers or advertisers. There is no third-party analytics or attribution SDK inside the app, and nothing tracks you across other companies' apps or sites.

Backups sent to our servers are used only to improve the app. We do not use them for advertising or marketing, and no one outside Estisnap sees them except the hosting providers that store them for us.

Your choices

Your scans live on your device, so most control is directly in your hands. Deleting a dent or a repair order deletes it from your phone. Deleting the app removes everything it stored locally, so export any estimate you want to keep first. Sync can be switched off at any time.

If you want the backup copies on our servers deleted, write to beta@dents.co.

For the waitlist and the mailing lists, write to beta@dents.co and we will remove your address.

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, port or delete personal information, and to appeal a refusal. Write to beta@dents.co to make a request.

Children

Dents.co is a tool for people doing paid repair work. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes to this notice

If this notice changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page and say so in the app's release notes. We do not email changes to this notice, so check back here.
